Access to local, regional and national statistics.

Babergh, in partnership with the Suffolk Development Agency provides a web-based research tool for identifying key information about the district, called the Suffolk Observatory. A range of information can be found on the website under the following themes:

  • Census 2001 – several domains
  • Crime - various crime rates etc
  • Demographics – population estimates, population by age estimates etc
  • Deprivation – Job Seekers Allowance (JSA), disability and income support claimants etc
  • Economic – house prices, VAT statistics, GVA per head etc
  • Education – A Level, GCSE and primary attainment, year 11 destination etc
  • Health – mortality rates, life expectancy, teenage conceptions etc
  • Labour market – unemployment rate, economic activity rate etc

The output data can be at ward, district and county levels, depending on the original area of measurement. A mapping tool is also available. A number of tailored reports are available on the website examining particular issues in the County including the Babergh Profile.

The Office of National Statistics department provides the government’s statistical and registration services. A wide range of official UK statistics is available on this site, as well as a link to Neighbourhood Statistics where data for local areas can be viewed, compared or downloaded.

The East of England Development Agency (EEDA) maintains a dedicated interactive web site. This site seeks to collect, analyse and disseminate key regional information to present an accurate picture of the socio-economic and environmental structure of the East of England.
