Introduction

The following animal establishments require licensing with Environmental Health. This in order to regulate animal welfare standards
 

Animal Boarding Establishments

Premises boarding either cats or dogs must be licensed with this Department. All new Catteries or Dog Boarding Establishments must be constructed to the requirements of the CIEH Model Standards. Each licence is valid for one calendar year only.

Boarding other people's dogs in your home on a commercial basis also requires a licence.

To apply for a licence, please print a copy of the application form by following the link below, fill it in and return it to us by post. The cost of the licence is £112. Alternatively, contact Environmental Health on 01473 825890 to request an application form.

Dangerous Wild Animals

Certain species of animals require a Dangerous Wild Animals licence, which is only issued following a Vet's inspection of the premises. This licence is valid only until 31st December of the year in which it was issued.

To apply for a licence, please print a copy of the application form by following the link below, fill it in and return it to us by post. The cost of the licence is £160 plus Vet's Fees. Alternatively, contact Environmental Health on 01473 825890 to request an application form.

Dog Breeding Establishments

Any premises which carries on a business of breeding dogs for sale must be licensed by this Department. If 5 or more litters are produced in 1 year, then it is presumed a breeding establishment is being run. This licence is valid only until 31st December of the year in which it was issued.

Pet shops

Anyone selling animals as a business must be licensed to keep a Pet Shop. Again, this licence is valid only until 31st December of the year in which it was issued.

To apply for a licence, please print a copy of the application form by following the link below, fill it in and return it to us by post. The cost of the licence is £106. Alternatively, contact Environmental Health on 01473 825890 to request an application form.

Riding Schools

A licence is required before anyone can let a horse, pony or donkey out for hire. A veterinary inspection is necessary before a licence can be issued. Once issued, a licence is valid for 12 calendar months.

To apply for a licence, please print a copy of the application form by following the link below, fill it in and return it to us by post. The cost of the licence is £123 (plus veterinary fees). Alternatively, contact Environmental Health on 01473 825890 to request an application form.

Zoos

Any establishment where wild animals are kept for display to the public (other than in a circus or a pet shop) must first obtain a licence from the Local Authority.

If you intend to apply for a Zoo Licence please print off a copy of the Zoo Notification Form via the link below, fill it in and return it to us by post. Please telephone us on 01473 825890 to request a hard copy of the notification form.
