Summary

Community Achievement Awards, nomination forms and information on why the scheme is run and what happens after nominations are made.

Why do we run an Award Scheme?

Babergh's Community Achievement Award Scheme, which has been running for 15 years, was introduced to recognise and promote the achievements of people living in the Babergh district who have made a significant contribution to their local community or school. There are four categories of awards:

  • Category 1 - outstanding contribution made by a young person or group of young people 18 years or under
  • Category 2 - selfless service by an individual (over 18) to a voluntary body or to the community
  • Category 3 - voluntary or community group that improves the quality of life for residents in our district
  • Category 4 - outstanding business contribution to the well-being of the community/district (single award)

How do I nominate someone for an Award?

Application forms are sent to Parish Councils & Meetings, Schools and other recognised community/voluntary organisations in September of each year with a closing date of 30th November for receipt of nominations.

The nominations are judged in December and award winners notified before Christmas.

An award ceremony is organised for February/March each year, this year's event being on 4th March 2009 at the Stoke by Nayland Club.  Mark Murphy from Radio Suffolk's Breakfast programme will be the guest of honour and the event will also be attended by Jennie Jenkins, Chairman of the Council and Robert Audley, Managing Director of Prolog.
