Babergh Community Safety Partnership has produced Suffolk’s very first community safety booklet. The A5 booklet has been delivered into 40,000 homes within YOUR district via Babergh Matters! The booklet contains useful information, advice and helpline numbers on drugs, alcohol, domestic abuse, home security, personal safety, vehicle crime, road safety, fire safety, anti-social behaviour and citizen involvement.
Examples of the articles include: who you can turn to if you are a victim of domestic abuse, how to avoid being tricked by a bogus caller, personal safety tips to keep you safe when walking alone, how to report anti-social behaviour and much more…..There is also some information on the consequences of too much alcohol and some shocking statistics on road safety.
Various organizations placed adverts within the booklet making this publication free for Babergh Community Safety Partnership to produce for you. They all attended the launch of this booklet to showcase their good work - Victim Support, Babergh District Council, Suffolk Police, Suffolk County Council, Iceni Homes, West Suffolk College and Orbit to name a few.
The booklet was unveiled for the first time on the 2nd of June 2008 at Stoke by Nayland Hotel, Golf Club and Spa. Tim Yeo MP opened the event by talking about how safe Suffolk really is. He also congratulated Babergh Community Safety Partnership for their hard work in keeping Babergh's crime rate at half the national average. Special guest speaker Alicyo Eyo, (from Bad Girls/The Bill/Casualty), spoke about the benefits of using drama, dance and music as diversionary activities for young people. And also as a positive way to engage members of the public so that they can convey their concerns about the community. Other speakers included Suffolk Police District Commander for Babergh, Martin Ransome, and Chair of Babergh Community Safety Parternship, Cllr Nick Ridley. Media partners Town 102 FM sent down presenter Dave James to compare the event and to broadcast live from the launch.
Ann Scott, Community Safety Officer for Babergh District Council says: "This booklet is an important project for Babergh Community Safety Partnership. It is a unique opportunity for us to distribute important advice, useful information and helpline numbers to so many people in one go. Some of the security tips may seem like common sense but it is easy to become complacent when we live in such a safe district. This is a gentle reminder to remain vigilant, even though the chance of becoming a victim of crime in Babergh is as little as five per cent."
Babergh Community Safety Partnership have worked hard to bring this information together for you – by following the advice and working with us we can make Babergh an even better place to live in, work in and visit. Keep it by the phone!
