Newton Succeeds in the Village of the Year Awards 2009

Summary

Babergh District Council is pleased to announce the achievements of the village of Newton in these Awards which were open to the smaller villages across the County with an electoral roll population of up to 500.

The Cosford Trophy for the Village of the year in the Babergh District was awarded to the village of Newton.  Lindsey was 2nd placed and Edwardstone  were placed in 3rd position.

Newton then went forward to represent the Babergh Distict in the County round and competed against six villages from the other districts. The 3 villages that made the Final round and judged by Mark Murphy and Lesley Dolphin of BBC Radio Suffolk were Metfield ( Mid Suffolk ),Newton ( Babergh ) and Westhall ( Waveney ).

NEWTON were the winners of Suffolk Village of the Year.  Westhall finished as runner up and Metfield were  3rd placed.

Newton will now proceed further by representing Suffolk in the regional round of the national competition. Babergh District Council CONGRATULATES Newton on what it has achieved so far and wishes the village further success at the next stage. This Council recognises all the efforts and enthusiasm of those individuals and organisations involved in Newton life. It is a credit to the community spirit which exists within the village.

The ceremony for the presentation of the Babergh and Suffolk prizes will take place in early October.
