The 2010 awards are open to any Suffolk village with an electoral roll population of between 501 and 3,000 residents.
Colin Matthews, Babergh’s Senior Footpaths Officer, said: “Babergh has 27 villages falling within this category – and we know all of them meet the criteria in numerous ways - and hope that as many of them as possible will be entering this year.”
In 2009, the winning village of the district round was Newton who progressed to being the winner of the County round and became the Suffolk Village of the Year for 2009.
Babergh’s judging panel will be made up of four district councillors who will be marking villages for community spirit, general appearance, how well their parish council is run and their natural environment.
