A killer combination of witty writing and strong performances from the entire cast make for a fantastic evening out in Roy Williams’ drama, the brilliantly crafted Angel House.
A riveting tale of exhausted lives, betrayal and regret, smattered with touching moments, the plot twists and turns its way through. There are a few surprising revelations, slowly unfurling along the way into a moving, if unexpected, climax.
Although at times the dialogue and themes can be hard to deal with, Angel House makes several very pertinent points about society, giving a brief yet stark, revealing insight into one family’s dramatic life and the trials facing them. This is a powerfully demonstrative performance set in our troubled modern times of conflicting principled and moral values.
Sharply written humour punctuated even the most serious scenes; the performance provided great amusement which, even at the most intense instances in the drama, provided some much welcome, light-hearted relief. The show was passionate and punchy, a gripping tale of two brothers, the entertainment maintained to the very end. The emotional messages within the performance held a hidden, underlying depth which fully revealed itself to the audience as Angel House drew to a close.
Overall, the production delivers flawlessly with ease and style; insightful and entertaining, Angel House is not to be missed.
