A clever, thought-provoking show based on a novel, this is filled with very fluid and dynamic acting. With a powerfully imagined script and a life like storyline, you will come out thinking about horrific similarities between the past and present.
Set in May 1969, a beaten body of a 38 year old is found in the River Aire. An international police inquiry will trace back clues to uncover how he was savagely attacked by police. The show follows one man’s determination in finding justice and another just wanting a home.
With very dark lighting to set the grim and eerie scene you never know what may be around the corner. The large, three-storey distorted set is ingenious; I found it worked really well to set the scene and enhance both the atmosphere and tension. The actor, Daniel Francis who plays David Oluale creates a very believable and sympathetic character. I liked how the facts were straight, there were no hidden messages and was sensibly restrained.
Overall, this is an excellent show that has been well put together stage adaption. I would not suggest that young children attend for obvious reasons but anyone 16 or above can still enjoy it and have a message to think about.
