Student Theatre Critics (The New Wolsey)

Summary

Babergh District Council is working with the The New Wolsey Theatre in Ipswich to give three students from East Bergholt High School an opportunity to become theatre critics

Eleanor Goldberg, Hayden Carpenter and Mark Hurley attend East Bergholt High School and are all studying Drama. Eleanor is very excited about the chance to see such a range of performances; Hayden relishes the opportunity to see all sorts of theatre which will benefit his own practical drama work and Mark hopes to benefit from the opportunity to edit, develop and analyse his writing.

Their first review is 20th Century Boy - a celebration of the life of Marc Bolan and his band T.Rex.  The world premiere of this new musical will explode onto the New Wolsey stage this autumn and will feature some of the greatest rock songs ever written.

Claire Treadwell, Head of Communications at The New Wolsey commented  "We’re delighted to work with Babergh District Council again to deliver the Young Theatre Critics project. The scheme provides students with the unique opportunity to become reviewers for the year with the support and guidance of a professional industry reviewer. It has also proved invaluable in developing the skills and confidence of the students whilst helping to raise the profile of the New Wolsey’s programme to a younger audience.”

Jill Barton, Babergh District Council's Community Development Officer added "Once again it is great to work with students who are so committed to the project and I am really looking forward to reading their reviews. The New Wolsey are kicking off their season with the fabulous 20th Century Boy followed by a range of equally exciting productions and our students are in for a real treat.  Our partnership with the New Wolsey allows our young people to access a range of productions and hone their writing skills."

20th Century Boy runs from 8th September - 1st October. For more information please call the theatre's Box office on 01473 295900 or visit
