What is the Freedom of Information Act?

The Freedom of Information Act gives you the right to see a lot of information held by local councils, the government and authorities like the police, fire service and the NHS.

How do I request information using the Freedom of Information Act?

There are three ways to request information under the the Freedom of Information Act 2000;

Is there any charge for information requested through the Freedom of Information Act?

A fee may be charged in relation to any Freedom of Information request (e.g. photocopying, postage). You will be informed of any such fees as soon as possible after receipt of your request. Fees must be paid in full prior to the Freedom of Information request response being sent to you. Payment can be made by cash, cheque, debit/credit card. Cheques should be made payable to Babergh District Council. A receipt will be issued by the Cashiers Section.

What is a Publication Scheme?

This is a list of Babergh's information that is already available to you, as well as information that we intend to make available to you soon. The Publication Scheme is on this website.

How can I get a copy of the information listed in the Publication Scheme?

We are currently working to put more information on our website. If you cannot find what you are looking for, please contact us by emailing foi@babergh.gov.uk
