Location Plan Opening and Closing Times

Belle Vue house was originally built in the 1780's by Nathaniel Burrough, a retired grocer related to the Gainsboroughs.
The house was rebuilt in the nineteenth century and after the First World War became the Borough of Sudbury's council offices. The gardens, together with those of Ingram's Well House, became a town park.
Important parts of Belle Vue Park's infrastructure are the large areas of informal landscaping. Used by visitors for relaxing, picnicking and casual ball games, on sunny days it can get quite crowded!

Belle Vue House and Park were transferred to Babergh District Council in 1974, during Local Government reorganisation. Belle Vue House is now known as the "Stour Valley Centre" and provides out-reach facilities for West Suffolk College, an over fifties drop-in centre, and the Citizen's Advice Bureau.

The Park provides a wonderful setting for both formal and informal bedding, designed by Babergh District Council's Horticultural Officer.

Belle Vue Park has a considerable variety of play facilities. The public toilets within the park underwent a major refurbishment in 2002 and now have baby change facilities. They can be found right next to the children's playground.
The Pet Area in Belle Vue Park is popular with all ages. Recently refurbished, it contains chipmunks, finches, parakeets, budgerigars, cockatiels, rabbits and chickens.
It is regularly inspected by the RSPCA (Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) and is currently providing a home to some of the animals in their care.
Events
Events are held in Belle Vue Park annually. Organised by Babergh District Council, they attract sponsorship from Sudbury Town Council, local businesses and community action groups such as Sudbury in Bloom. Activities are free and prove to be extremely popular with everyone.
For other events in and around Sudbury, take a look at Suffolk's very own Event Website. There is always something to do.
