DIY Solar Panel Installation Courses
Babergh District Council in association with the award winning BroadSol self-build solar water heating project is offering you the opportunity to spend a weekend learning how to assemble and install your own system.
BroadSol has been running in Norfolk for 6 years and is now offering the first Suffolk course for you. BroadSol courses take place over a weekend and are led by Centre for Alternative Technology (CAT, Wales) lecturer Lee Rose of Norfolk Solar.
During the 2 days you will be taught how solar thermal systems work, how to assemble the component parts of a system and more importantly how to go away and confidently, competently and safely install your own system. You don’t need any previous solar or DIY experience. You’ll be given expert tuition and will only be expected to do what you feel comfortable with. The last 5 courses in Norfolk have yielded over 60 installed systems with a broad range of people from 16 to 60 with most attendees going from trepidation to absolute self-belief. Courses usually involve about 10 people to ensure the learning experience and there are plenty of opportunities for one to ones.
The training is provided free of charge when you sign up and buy a self-build solar water heating system. Prices start from £1,795 which includes 2 panels, new twin coil hot water cylinder, pump set, control panel and all the parts you will need. Please email SEAL@Suffolkcoastal.gov.uk if you are interested.
It is planned to hold the course at Lowestoft College or a North Suffolk location.
