Contaminated Land Inspection and Identification StrategyThe Council is the main regulatory authority for contaminated land, although the Environment Agency deals with certain "Special Sites". The duty is to ensure that people, property and the environment are not harmed by contaminants in the ground, and that any existing damage is remedied.
Over the next few years we will inspect the whole of the Babergh District for contaminated land, and will take action to prevent harm (to human health or the wider environment) from occurring.
Our Contaminated Land Strategy provides further information about how we plan to do this.

Contaminated Land Register
The Council is required to maintain a Public Register containing information relating to sites it has determined as contaminated land, under Part IIA legislation.
The register will include details of Remediation Notices that have been served and certain other documents in relation to each designated site. The register will also include information about the condition of the land in question.
There are currently no entries on the Contaminated Land Register. |
