Disabled Adaptations

Summary

Information for disabled people who need a handrail, ramped access, stair lift or other adaptation to their Council House.

We install adaptations for disabled people who live in a Council House.

Minor work

If you require a handrail, please phone the Council Housing Services team on 01473 825757 to discuss your requirements.

Major work

For all other adaptations like;

  • over-bath showers,
  • flush floor showers,
  • stair-lifts, and
  • ramped access,

please contact Social Care Services Occupational Therapists on 08456 023023. Social Care Services will arrange to assess your needs, then advise us of the work that is required.

We will then visit your house to check where the adaptation is to go and that the property is suitable for the adaptations recommended. In some cases the nature or cost of the application may indicate that a transfer to more suitable property is the better solution.

We have a limited budget each year and applications are dealt strictly in date order.

Please note, no application for major work is accepted onto the waiting list without a Social Care Services referral.

If you need information in large print, audio cassette, braille, translation (written or verbal) or signed interpretation, let us know when you contact us. About our translation services.
