Babergh District Council has rewarded six residents with £100 each as a ‘thank you’ for using its Direct Debit facility.
For the third year running, Babergh, in conjunction with the Cooperative Bank, drew the names of the six lucky people at random from all of those who pay their Council Tax and rent by Direct Debit.
Last week (24th November) at a reception held at Babergh’s Hadleigh HQ, Ken Smith, Public Sector and Community Manager of the Cooperative Bank presented cheques to two of the winners – Alfred and Valerie Allworth from East Bergholt and William Harvey of Holbrook. Also in attendance were members of Babergh’s Revenues Team. Head of Revenues at Babergh, Bob Southgate commented “It’s not every day you hear of a local authority giving money back!”
Presenting the cheques, Ken Smith said “Direct Debit is the easy way to pay which takes the stress away from having to remember a monthly bill. Babergh is a good council, they make it easy to pay this way”.
Babergh offer a variety of payment dates throughout the month to make budgeting easier than ever. With payment dates being either on the 1st, 8th, 15th, 22nd or 28th of each month for Council Tax and 1st or 21st of each month for rent, you can control when you pay your bill. The Direct Debit system is totally secure and only needs to be set up once – which can be done by a simple phone call.
Mr Smith continued “The results speak for themselves. Babergh now has an amazing 76% of Council Tax and 68% of Business Rates paid to them using Direct Debit”.
Bob Southgate agreed, by saying “This creates valuable time savings which allows officers to spend more time on front line services helping our customers”.
