Concerned about the safety of the public and the need to meet fire regulations, Babergh District Council is urging members of the public to arrive as close to the start of the meeting on Hadleigh Pool as possible.
“The aim of the meeting on 31st August is to both provide residents with information as to the difficult decisions ahead and to listen to their views. We expect that there will be a high turnout” said Cllr. Nick Ridley, Babergh’s Strategy Committee Chairman. “However, we also have a duty to ensure that the meeting accords with safety and fire regulations and so we will have to limit the number of people in the Town Hall to 250. We, therefore, urge residents to get to the hall as close to the start time of 7.30pm as possible.
The format for the evening is as follows:
7.30- 8.00pm: Residents will have the chance during this time to view a display outlining the main issues surrounding the affordability of a new pool and chat with Councillors and officers from Babergh. On entering the Town Hall, residents will be given a card on which to write any questions they may have about the pool. In addition, they will also be asked two multiple choice questions as to whether they think a new pool is affordable or not.
8.00- 8.15pm: The Chairman of the meeting, Paul Geater, Political Editor of the Evening Star, will invite the panel comprising Cllr. Nick Ridley, Babergh’s Strategy Committee Chairman and the four representatives of the Council’s political groups to make short opening comments.
8.15- 9.30pm: Question and Answer session, based on the questions that residents handed in earlier being put to the panel members.
The results of the multiple choice questions will be fed into Babergh’s State of the District process which is made up of three Residents’ Forums and a half day workshop (the ‘State of the District Event’). The views and responses expressed during these public gatherings will in turn contribute to the State of the District Debate in October where Babergh Councillors will start to map out the shape of the budget and their service priorities for 2006/07.
