Babergh District Council has delivered over 500 leaflets to homes in Great Cornard urging residents to report a man if he breaches his Anti-Social Behaviour Order (ASBO).
Last week Karl Matthew Roberts, 19, who has previously resided in the Great Cornard area, was given an ASBO for three years for a number of anti-social activities including harassment, intimidation and verbal abuse. The conditions of his ASBO include forbidding him from entering the area bounded by Poplar Road, Pot Kiln Road and Shawlands, from using threatening, abusive or insulting words and from placing other people in fear of their safety or the safety of their property.
Cllr. Sue Carpendale, Chairman of Babergh’s Strategy Committee explained that “Babergh is actively working with other bodies, including the Police, to improve the safety of our residents. In certain cases, in order to protect both individuals and the wider community, we will apply for an ASBO. It is important that the local community is aware of the contents of any ASBO so that they can inform the appropriate authorities if the provisions are breached. That is why Babergh has taken this step of publicising the conditions of Mr Roberts’ ASBO”.
The leaflet gives residents a choice of telephone numbers to call if they see Mr Roberts in the excluded area or if he breaches the other prohibitions, which apply throughout England and Wales.
Babergh is also posting copies of the leaflet on parish notice boards. |
