A Suffolk council that has built up an impressive track record of low Council Tax increases, has once again achieved an inflation-only rise for the next financial year.
Babergh District Councillors today approved a 2.7% increase in the Babergh part of the Council Tax bills, although this part equates to only one-tenth of residents’ total bills.
2.7% means that a Band D property will be paying less than a penny a day more in 2006/07 than in the present financial year, with the annual total rising by only £3.23 to £122.68.
This has been achieved by Babergh identifying savings and additional income of £678,000 which has helped to pay for over a quarter of a million pounds on Babergh’s service priorities.
Cllr. Nick Ridley, Chairman of the Strategy Committee, said that “I believe we have produced a sound and sensible budget which will improve services for our residents and which will be welcomed by them. We recognise the importance for our residents of a low Council Tax increase”.
