10 experienced and talented individuals have joined together to become board members of a new leisure organisation tasked with transforming the leisure services across south Suffolk. And the transformation has already begun – with the ordering of new fitness equipment.

Funded by Babergh District Council, the South Suffolk Leisure Trust (SSLT) takes over the running of both the Kingfisher Leisure Centre in Sudbury and the Hadleigh Swimming Pool from a private company in April.

The Interim Chairman is Ian Brown who has 30 years experience in senior management positions in the petroleum industry. According to Ian “the new board brings together a real breadth and depth of talent and experience and I am confident that we will work well together in delivering the quality and choice expected by all local leisure users”.

“We are fortunate in being able to draw on the combined skills of managers from
BT, GEC/Marconi and Unilever, as well as those from a teaching, finance and political background. All the board members live in the Hadleigh and Sudbury areas.”

“One of the priorities of the SSLT, during the current handover period, is to better understand what customers want – and deliver them where possible. I’m delighted to say that receiving feedback from gym users at the Kingfisher, we have been able to order new equipment more in line with their requirements and these should soon be installed”.

“This shows that the SSLT is more than just a name change. With no shareholders to consider, we are able to plough back any surpluses into improving the services we provide and we intend to do that by being much more customer focussed” concluded Ian Brown.

Details on both leisure facilities can be found on the South Suffolk Leisure website.
