Full planning applications for a site near Sudbury earmarked for both industrial use and a new community hospital are expected and could be considered by Babergh District Council’s Development Committee later in 2006.
Richard Watson, Babergh’s Head of Planning (Control) explained that “if planning permission is granted, this 10 hectare site at Church Field Road, Chilton, could offer local people the potential to realise both improved healthcare should any hospital be built in the future and up to 500 extra jobs as a result of Prolog building an industrial unit there”.
Outline planning permission had already been granted in 2002, although subsequent legal advice suggested that there was uncertainty over the need to consider whether an Environmental Impact Assessment was required. As a result, and after notifying both the company and the Suffolk West Primary Care Trust, Babergh advised that the logical next step was to move to full applications. As well as considering the detail of the proposal, consideration will also be given as to whether an environmental assessment is needed or not.
“This land has been allocated for employment uses for several years and the council would be pleased to see it put to use” concluded Mr Watson.
