Babergh District Council today publishes the names and details of the 25 winners of its 2006 Community Achievement Awards. The awards scheme, now in its 14th year, attracted entries from across the Babergh community making hard work for the six member judging panel, which this year included two young people.

Jill Barton, organiser of the scheme commented “Although we are now in our 14th year all the nominations received were of a very high quality making judging very difficult.  All of our winners consistently make a real difference to their communities and I am astounded by their efforts.”

Many of the awards support young people across the district.  Belstead Special School Council has eleven student members between 11 and 19 and receive a young achievers award for its work within the School community.  Jack Copping,  at 13,  the youngest single achiever, is an outstanding young swimmer, who despite his disability, has dreams of winning gold in the 2012 paralympics whilst Nicky Rogers at 15 is an invaluable member of Libertys Youth Club in Sudbury and is nominated for his commitment to the Club and his kindness and care to members.

Also making a real difference are joint award winners Aaron Creamer & Leo Scott who have been the prime movers over a 5 year period in establishing a BMX facility in the heart of Sudbury and Angela Tribe & Edna Mann from Hadleigh who have been responsible for 40 years of teamaking!

A special celebration evening for the 25 winners will take place on Wednesday 8th March at the Stoke by Nayland Club. The Guest of Honour for the evening will be BBC Radio Suffolk’s Breakfast Show presenter, Mark Murphy. The awards will be presented by Robert Audley, Managing Director of Prolog, who sponsor the event and Sue Wigglesworth, Chairman of the Council.
