The layout and management of three Babergh District Council car parks is so good that they have become crime-free zones and have received Park Mark Awards for the second year running as a result.
The car parks at Stonehouse Road and the High Street , Hadleigh and Girling Street, Sudbury, which are used by 70,000 vehicles ach year, were checked by inspectors from Park Mark, who run the nationwide safer parking scheme.
Stewart Schleip, Babergh’s Engineering Services Manager, was delighted with the Council’s ongoing success. “Babergh strives to make the district as safe as possible for residents and visitors alike. By thinking carefully about the use of CCTV cameras, street lighting and the need for low foliage, we aim to ensure that user of our car parks can feel as safe as possible and that the chances of a crime being committed are a low as possible”.
Police reports show that no crimes were reported in any of the three car parks over the past 12 months. Having won the awards over two successive years, the car parks will now not need to be evaluated for another two years.
