An intrepid council worker will be strapping on his helmet and safety harness – and all in the name of charity.
Greg Cooper, Babergh’s Community Development Officer (Be Active Project), will be tackling a 150ft abseil challenge to raise funds for the Babergh Disability Sport and Leisure Forum.
The abseil is taking place on July 15 at Ipswich Hospital’s maternity wing and will see eight other members of the forum also taking part in the challenge to raise much-needed funds.
Greg, who has never abseiled before and undertaken no training, is looking forward to the event.
“Although I am not afraid of heights, it is something that I have never done before and am sure that looking down from the top will be quite intimidating – it’s the Forum’s first venture into extreme sports,” he said.
The forum, which is supported by Babergh District Councils Be Active Project, aims to raise awareness of sporting and leisure opportunities available to people with disabilities within the district.
It also supports local organisations in providing additional sporting and leisure opportunities. Anyone who is interested in sponsoring the Disability Sport and Leisure Forum, or finding more out about the Be Active Project, can get in touch by calling Greg on (01473) 826640 or emailing leisure@babergh.gov.uk.
