Summary

Babergh District Council has just published its summer activities programme – and it promises to banish the boring holiday blues.
Babergh District Council has just published its summer activities programme – and it promises to banish the boring holiday blues.

A wide range of events are planned for the six-week summer holiday period and will be taking place right across the district from Shotley to Sudbury and Copdock to Capel St Mary, starting from Monday, July 24.

Children, from eight to 16 years old, can choose from a range of activities including Samba Soccer Skills, Speed Shot, Basketball, mobile skate park, fun athletics, rounders, Kwik Cricket, tennis and street football.

Sue Longhurst, Babergh’s Community Development Officer (Sport), said: “Babergh’s activities are open to children of all abilities and are an excellent way for them to stay entertained and, most importantly, active throughout the summer.

“The sessions will be packed full of fun and children will be learning new skills at the same time.”

All sessions are part of the Pay and Play Scheme – anyone can turn up and join in the fun, no booking is required.

Cost is £1 per session, except tennis, which is £4. All the Glemsford activities are free as they have been funded by the Babergh Crime and Disorder Reduction Partnership.

As well as the planned activities, Babergh is still running its popular weekly Samba Soccer Skills workshops.

Boys - and girls – can learn the moves of Brazil’s Ronaldinho and Portugal’s Ronaldo at Hadleigh Leisure Centre every Friday from 5pm until 6pm for ten to 16-year-olds. Each session costs £2.50.

The same class, which costs £3, is also being run at Great Cornard Sports Centre on Fridays from 5pm until 6pm for six to ten-year-olds and from 6pm until 7pm for ten to 16-year-olds.
