DISABLED PEOPLE’S VIEWS SOUGHT

Summary

A survey to try and find out how Babergh’s services for disabled people are performing – and where they can be improved – has been launched.

Babergh District Council aims to ensure all disabled residents have opportunities to fully participate in the life of the district - including the ability to access services, employment, education and training, community life and opportunities for healthy living.

In order to design services that reflect this aim, Babergh is urging all disabled people in the district to take part by filling in a short questionnaire – and help in the designing of a new Disability Equality Scheme.

This document will then help to shape Babergh’s policies, practices and services to fully take account of the needs and requirements of disabled people in the area.

Alison Spalding, Babergh’s Policy Officer, said: “Babergh wants all disabled residents to have access to services that meet their needs. We are aware that occasionally there are obstacles that prevent them from using these and other services.

“To address these potential problems, we are writing a new Disability Equality Scheme, that will identify where these barriers may be, and find ways of overcoming them.

We hope that by completing the questionnaire, and by participating in other events during the year, disabled people in Babergh will help make the district an even better place in which to live and work.”

If there is more than one person in the household who is disabled, separate questionnaires for each person should be completed.

The closing date for all replies to be received back at Babergh’s offices in Hadleigh is July 14, 2006.
