The Kingfisher Leisure Centre in Sudbury is set to undergo a series of major improvements – with new state-of-the-art equipment aimed at making it one of the best swim and fitness centres in the area.
As part of the handover from a private company to South Suffolk Leisure Trust (SSLT), which is part funded and supported by Babergh District Council, the Kingfisher will be shutting its doors for a short while and then re-opening even better than before.
Penny Arnold, Babergh’s Trust Project Manager explained that “in addition to a brand new fitness studio with the latest exercise and static cycling machines, we are also investing in new equipment and ensuring that the staff are up-to-date with the demands of running a first class centre”.
The £170,000 refurbishment is being paid for by Babergh District Council.
Ms Arnold continued “we are sorry for any convenience that the temporary closure of the centre may cause our customers, but we are sure that they will understand since it is aimed at further improving what we can offer them. Members of the Kingfisher will be able to use Hadleigh Pool at no extra charge to themselves during the improvements” she concluded.
Kingfisher will be closed from Saturday 1st April, with the pool re-opening on the 8th, the dance studio and crèche on the 10th and the gym on the 14th.
SSLT will manage both the Kingfisher and Hadleigh Pool and will receive over £190,000 in the first year alone from Babergh, who will be responsible for the maintenance of the buildings at both facilities.
