Suffolk chef Mark David will be taking his love of food to the youngsters of Babergh when he headlines a youth conference with a difference later this month.

More than 60 youngsters, aged between 12 and 16, will be taking part in the conference, organized by Babergh District Council during Local Democracy Week, aimed at promoting healthy bodies, healthy eating and healthy communities.

The day-long event is packed full of information and workshops which the delegates, who are from Babergh schools and youth organisations, will be able to take part in.

Among the sessions is a special cocktail workshop, with a twist. The youngsters will be shown how to make healthy smoothies and mocktails – similar to cocktails but without the alcohol!

Chef Mark David, who runs The Cooking Experience in Hadleigh, will open the event in the morning and in the afternoon the conference becomes a marketplace for the delegates to find out more about volunteering in the community.

The conference, which is called Focus on Us: A whole Head of Health and is sponsored by Waitrose in Sudbury, is taking place on October 16, at the Stoke by Nayland Golf Club, from 10am until 3pm.

It will focus on two of Babergh’s corporate priorities for the district: to promote healthy living and reduce health inequalities and to raise individual and community ambitions.

Jill Barton, Babergh’s Corporate Support Officer, said: “A team of young people from East Bergholt High School were involved with everything from the outset – from helping to shape the programme right down to what should be discussed.

“We hope the conference will raise awareness of healthy lifestyles, increase participation by young people in voluntary activities and give a greater understanding of Babergh’s role in the community.”
