Babergh District Council is urging householders to register as electors as part of the annual canvass of residential properties in its area. Reminder forms are being sent out this week to addresses where a registration form has yet to be returned.
Ray Amesbury, Babergh’s Electoral Services Manager, asked people who have not yet returned their form to do so as soon as possible. “We have to publish a new register of electors every year”, he explained. “It is very important that people take a few moments to complete their form and get it back to us without delay. Only people whose names are on the register will be able to vote at elections in the following year”.
“There are District and Parish and Town Council elections in Babergh’s area next year, so it is doubly important that people should fill in their forms to avoid losing their right to vote.”
The reminder forms, like the originals, will be pre-printed with the details of the persons registered at the address for the current year. If these details are no longer correct, electors are asked to make any necessary amendments before returning the form. The form needs to be returned even if there are no changes to be made. No stamp is required. If anyone has not yet received a form, they are asked to contact the Electoral Registration Unit on 01473 825713 as soon as possible.
