Groups from Sudbury to Shotley could be in line to receive a cash windfall - after an annual grants scheme was unveiled.
Babergh District Council’s Grants for Community Facilities and Projects Scheme has £100,000 to dish out to worthy causes – and is urging community groups to get their skates on and apply for a slice of the pot.
The grants can be used for anything from village halls, sport and recreation and play equipment projects.
Eligible schemes can include new buildings, extensions or additions or replacements – for example a new football pitch, new cricket clubhouse or new village hall, an extension to a hall, new toilets, replacement boiler or new swings with safer surfacing.
In the past, Babergh has funded projects including £25,000 for Lavenham Community Centre and £10,000 for Newton Village Hall.
Suzanne Bulmer, Babergh’s Senior Admin Officer, said: “This fund can be used for a variety of projects in the community and is just waiting to be spent.
“I would urge anyone with a community project in the offing, to apply and see just how much help they could get.”
Applications have to come from the voluntary sector, parish councils or community groups and to match the funding from Babergh with locally-raised cash.
The closing date for applications is December 15, 2006 and awards will be made in March/April 2007. The grant will then need to be spent by 31 March 2008.
Information on current community grants can be found on the Babergh website.
