A CHEEKY WAY TO GET BABERGH ACTIVE

Summary

A new initiative aimed at getting Babergh residents to take more exercise is asking for ideas and help before it is formally launched – in a rather cheeky way.

A new initiative aimed at getting Babergh residents to take more exercise is asking for ideas and help before it is formally launched – in a rather cheeky way.

Leaflets are being sent out to schools and clubs, plus libraries and other locations available to the general public, featuring clothed seated bottoms – with the messages “Get off this!” and “Hello, cheeky!”

The partnership, made up of the District Council, Sport England, local schools and many voluntary groups, is running a competition to find the best idea for the organisation’s name, logo and strapline.

Gordon Alecock, Community Liaison Officer at The Ryes School, describes the aims of the organisation, “We really want to get as many people as possible involved, from young people, to the W.I. and the over 60s and everyone in between. We want to cover everything from carpet bowls to triathlons”.

According to Paul Little, Babergh’s Community Safety and Leisure Manager, “We want this initiative to capture the public’s imagination and so we need local people to get involved from the outset. The idea of these leaflets is to grab the attention of those who might want to come up with marketing ideas for the organisation in a way that is relevant – by emphasising one of the downsides of a lack of exercise”.

The competition will offer three prizes, with the first prize being of the value of £500, second prize of the value of £150 and third prize £50.

The partnership will look to develop the facilities available throughout Babergh that involve people in active leisure. The aim of the partnership is to get as many people as possible involved in a wide range of active leisure pursuits through promoting the numerous benefits of an active lifestyle.

“We want this to be a genuine partnership between the clubs, schools, Council, Sport England and the people of Babergh and so we would welcome residents’ help in launching the partnership” concluded Paul Little.

To enter the competition send your details and entries for the name of the new organisation (no more than 3 words), a strapline (phrase of no more than 6 words summing up the aims) and logo to:
