It’s not just contestants on TV reality shows who are being converted to the joys of dance – boys across Babergh are reaping its benefits too.
To prove the point, the latest ‘Boys in Babergh’ dance performance takes place at Sudbury Upper School and Arts College on Friday (February 9) – boasting more than 70 participants.
‘Boys in Babergh’ is a boys-only dance education project, funded and co-ordinated by Babergh District Council and DanceEast. The project works in schools to encourage boys from the ages of seven to 18 to get involved in dance.
Children from primary, middle and secondary schools across the district have taken part in dance sessions since the autumn of last year.
Youngsters from Acton Primary School, Uplands Middle School, Sudbury Upper School and Great Cornard Middle School will be among those taking part on Friday.
Also appearing are dancers from the critically-acclaimed New Art Club, who will join forces with Suffolk-based dance artist Tom Hobden. Boyz United – a dance group from Ipswich – will also feature in the performance.
Susie Tyrrell, Babergh’s Arts and Community Development Officer, said: “Boys in Babergh has been a tremendous success. We have been delighted at the number of young people who have decided to become involved in dance through the project – and feel the quality of their show will speak for itself.”
The ‘Boys in Babergh’ show starts at 7pm. Admission is £2.50 for adults – and £1.50 for under 16s. Call the box office on 01473 295900 for details.
