A district council committed to maximising the amount of resources available for new facilities within a market town, is asking Councillors to allow it to market an extra patch of land next to an empty Council property currently due to be put up for sale.

Babergh District Council is already in consultation with a commercial estate agent to market East House in George Street, Hadleigh. Their advice suggested that the inclusion of a small patch of land next to the property would both increase the returns to the local community, but would also make the property more attractive to a potential developer”.

According to Cllr. Nick Ridley, Chairman of Babergh’s Strategy Committee, which will consider the proposal on 8th February “this shows how determined we are to leave no stone unturned in maximising the value of our limited available assets in the town. However, even if all of our hoped-for asset sales come off, we will still need considerable extra support in order to achieve the necessary funds for new community facilities in Hadleigh, such as a new pool”.
