A series of activities designed to help stop anti-social behaviour in a Babergh village is back after much success last year.

Glemsford had been identified as an anti-social behaviour ‘hotspot’ by the Babergh Crime and Disorder Reduction Partnership (CDRP) after continuing reports of noise, criminal damage, graffiti and nuisance-type behaviour.

Babergh District Council’s Be Active Leisure Inclusion Service has been busy planning this year’s event – in addition to providing Samba Soccer sessions in the village throughout the year.

This year’s activities are now ready to roll, kicking off every Wednesday from July 25 and every Thursday from July 26 - and continuing throughout the six-week holidays.

The sessions cover everything from multi-sports, DJ workshops, street dance, Samba Soccer and boxing.

Everyone from the ages of six to 18, and of all abilities, are catered for and all activities are free as they are funded by Babergh CDRP and supported by Glemsford parish Council. There is no need to book and all sessions are Turn Up and Play.

Stephanie Lloyd, Babergh’s Community Development Officer (Leisure Inclusion), said: “These sessions give youngsters of all ages and abilities a chance to learn something new, stay active and give them something else to focus on – rather than creating trouble.

“Last year was a real success and reports of anti-social behaviour were down 98 per cent over that period. On the back of that, the activities are back this year and better than ever.”

Organisers are also urging people to come forward and attend a public meeting, being held after the holidays, to expand and look at different ways of continuing the Thursday night sessions throughout the year.

Miss Lloyd added: “It is really important these activities are here for the long-term and we can only do this with the support of the local community.”

More information about the activities is available on the Leisure Inlcusion page of Babergh's website or call general enquiries on (01473) 826622.

For more details on the public meeting – or you are an interested member of the community who would like to help – please call Stephanie Lloyd on (01473) 825834.

Please note: Children aged from six to eight years old must be accompanied by an adult at all times.ENDS
