Work on the site of a former sheltered housing scheme demolished to make way for 23 new affordable homes is about to enter the next phase of development.
Clibbon House, in Great Cornard, was identified for redevelopment by Babergh District Council’s Housing Panel, which donated the land to Flagship Housing Group, because of little demand for accommodation of the size and scale offered there.
Babergh District Councillors and representatives from partners Flagship Housing Group, Lovell and Oxbury & Company, met at the site last week to survey the work done so far and carry out an official turf turning ceremony.
Cllr Rex Thake, Chairman of Babergh, said: “The development at the former Clibbon House site is just another example of Babergh’s commitment to providing affordable housing across the district.
“I am sure the new homes will be a fantastic addition to the community.”
And Doug Malins, Flagship Housing Group’s head of business development, added: “We are delighted to be working in partnership with Babergh District Council, the North Cornard Regeneration Group and the local community on this exciting new project. This scheme will certainly help to meet the demand for affordable housing in this area.”
The building was knocked down and work to make the ground ready for the next phase began six weeks ago.
The project, which will include homes for affordable rent, shared ownership and shared equity, is due to be finished by March next year.
Jo Loveday, Director of Oxbury & Company, which is managing the project, said: “Creating 23 high-quality, environmentally sustainable, affordable homes right in the heart of Great Cornard is a very worthwhile project, which will both enhance the surrounding area and provide affordable housing for the local community."
And Lovell Regional Director Simon Medler added: “Our construction team will be using an advanced off-site construction system which allows us to achieve consistently excellent quality standards, faster construction times, high levels of energy–efficiency and less wastage.” ENDS
