Residents are being urged to nominate community heroes before the deadline for an annual awards scheme passes.
In September, Babergh District Council launched its Community Achievement Awards 2008 and asked for nominations of the people, groups and businesses that make Babergh special.
The awards, which are now in their 16th year, aim to highlight those who consistently make life better for others.
Nominations forms were sent to hundreds of schools, parish and town councils, businesses, groups and charities earlier this year.
Entries have been flooding in but with just under a fortnight before the deadline Babergh is urging anyone who thinks they know someone eligible to grab a nomination form and take part.
This year’s award categories are: outstanding contribution made by a young person or group of young people 18 years or under; selfless service by an individual (over 18) to a voluntary body or to the community; voluntary or community group that improves the quality of life for residents in our district and outstanding business contribution to the well-being of the community.
The deadline for nominations to be returned to Babergh is at the end of November, with judging to take place and winners notified by Christmas. All winners will then be invited to an awards ceremony being held in March.
Jill Barton, Babergh’s Corporate Support Officer, said: “There are people, groups and charities in Babergh who are our community heroes. They selflessly, and usually without payment, give up their time to help others and are a real asset to the district.
“It would be a shame for anyone to miss out on this, so get your forms in!”
Mark Murphy, from BBC Radio Suffolk’s Breakfast programme will compere the achievement awards ceremony, which is being sponsored by Prolog.
For further information and nomination forms are available from Jill Barton, Corporate Support Officer, Babergh District Council, Corks Lane, Hadleigh, Ipswich IP7 6SJ, by calling (01473) 826674 or emailing jill.barton@babergh.gov.uk.
Nomination forms, award criteria and list of recognised voluntary organisations are also available on the Communty Awards section of Babergh’s website. ENDS
