Staff at Sudbury’s Tourist Information Centre are hitting all the right notes and have been named one of the top ten centres in the whole of England.
Not content with beating off competition across the country, they were the highest-scoring Tourist Information Centre in the East of England too.
The results have been announced after VisitBritain carried out its annual inspection of all TICs in the form of a mystery shopper scenario.
Staff at the Sudbury branch were quizzed, without prior knowledge, by email, telephone and in person. Levels of customer service, information and satisfaction were monitored and fed back to VisitBritain which then drew up the list.
Sudbury TIC was top of the list for the East, tenth in England and achieved the highest scores out of the 223 TICs in England for the personal visit section when the results were released just over a week ago.
Shirley Cates, Manager of the Sudbury TIC, said: “We are all absolutely delighted with the results, especially when you think of some of the bigger centres, like York and London, that we were up against.
“It is a real testament to all the hard work and dedication put in by such a small team.”
It isn’t the first accolade for Sudbury’s TIC has scooped recently either. Earlier this year, the team were named as one of the best in Suffolk.
The TIC was shortlisted as a finalist in the Best Tourist Information Centre category at the Tourism in Suffolk Awards 2007. Staff from the Sudbury branch attended an awards ceremony but were just pipped at the post to be named the overall winner but were delighted to have made it to the final three.
Karina Coghlin, Babergh’s Tourism and Arts Manager, said: “It is very exciting to have the work of the Sudbury team recognised in this way - it is extremely well deserved.”
