A launch of a new DVD that features first-hand accounts of domestic violence from former Victims has been hailed a success.
The DVD, called Survivors Stories, which is to be used primarily as a training, educational and awareness-raising tool, features accounts from former victims of domestic violence and is the result of partnership working between Babergh Domestic Violence and Abuse Forum and Babergh District Council.
More than 80 people attended the launch, which was held at Babergh’s offices in Hadleigh on Monday (Nov 26), including councillors, and representatives from Suffolk Police, local primary care trusts, Victim Support, Women’s Aid, as well as representatives from other town, district and county councils throughout Suffolk and Essex.
Survivors Stories was launched to coincide with the start of White Ribbon Week, a national week that aims to raise the awareness of domestic violence and campaign for the elimination of violence against women.
It was also the first in the UK to be simultaneously launched online – through the Forum’s new website – with people unable to make the event able to watch proceedings via web streaming coming live from the launch in Babergh’s council chamber.
Cathy Press, Chair of the Babergh Domestic Violence and Abuse Forum, said: “We have had a phenomenal response to the launch with requests to purchase the DVD from across the UK and internationally.
“The Forum owes a great debt of gratitude to the people who were interviewed and have contributed to making Survivors Stories the profound and insightful resource that it is.”
