In the week that five post offices in Babergh have been earmarked for closure, Babergh District Councillors on the Overview & Scrutiny (Community Services) Committee have called in a Post Office Ltd representative to explain the reasoning behind their proposals.
Committee members will have a chance on 16th October to ask questions as to the bases upon which they have earmarked Acton, Ballingdon (Sudbury), Burstall and Copdock post offices for the axe and Assington to operate as an ‘Outreach’ operation. Representatives from the Parish Councils where post offices are due to be shut, plus those from Suffolk ACRE and the Suffolk Association of Local Councils, have been invited to attend.
Ms Sheila McCann, a Network Development Manager at Post Office Ltd, is due to attend the meeting.
According to Committee Chairman, Cllr. James Long “although Babergh is just one of many ‘consultees’ in this process, we are very keen to ensure that during the six week consultation period, our communities affected by the closure programme have a proper chance to understand why their post offices have been selected”.
