‘For sale’ signs have gone up outside of the Babergh District Council-owned East House today – the first step in what is expected to be a thorough process in selling the Hadleigh property.
“We are still putting the finishing touches to planning guidelines, but felt that now was the time to allow our agents to judge the level and type of interest for this site” explained Steve Ellwood, Babergh’s Property Manager.
“We hope that the time taken in ensuring that this planning guidance – which sets out what any potential developer can and cannot do both to the Grade II building and its grounds – will ensure that there is an appropriate and sustainable use for the site. Because of the planning sensitivities associated with East House and its immediate surroundings, it is highly unlikely that we will see a sale of the site let alone a planning application for sometime to come”.
Babergh has pledged that the proceeds from selling East House will be reinvested back into facilities and services within the town. This first step on the road to unlocking the value of this asset comes a few weeks after Babergh’s Strategy Committee gave the thumbs up to an investigation into the possible facilities that might be incorporated into a community building located near to the site of Hadleigh Swimming Pool.
Anyone interested in further information about the sales details of East House should contact Babergh’s agents, Strutt and Parker, on (01473) 214841.
