Three of Babergh District Council’s 28 Conservation Areas are due to be reviewed in the coming months – and in all cases members of the public and interested groups are being asked for their views.
The Conservation Areas at Little Waldingfield, Bures St Mary and Pin Mill form the settings for a number of Grade I, II* and II listed buildings and contain other features of note. Being included in a Conservation Area ensures a greater degree of protection for all the buildings than would otherwise be the case. It also places a duty on the Council to more widely consult when a planning application is received for a property in the Conservation Area.
According to Patrick Taylor, Babergh’s Conservation Architect, “we are proposing no boundary change to the area at Pin Mill, a very minor extension to that in Little Waldingfield and a large reduction to Bures St. Mary – although most of that encompasses countryside to the north of the village and very few buildings. We do however want to make sure that even a no-change recommendation is fully debated”.
Babergh has organised a public meeting and exhibition for each of the three Areas:
Date Village Location Time 5th September Little Waldingfield Parish Room 7.30-9.00 pm 12th September Bures St Mary Garrad Room 7.30-9.00 pm 26th September Pin Mill Sailing Club 7.00-8.30 pm
Babergh is also writing to English Heritage, the Suffolk Preservation Society, Suffolk County Council, the relevant Parish Councils and the local District Councillors for their views.
The results of the consultations will be included in a report to be considered by the Strategy Committee in November. ENDS
Papers G140, G141 and G142 on the three conservation areas can be found on the Commitee Reports Page 2007-08.
