A new study of retail capacity in the Babergh district is set to start – after adverts requesting tenders from experienced consultants were published today (Feb 13).
Babergh District Council is commissioning the new report of the retail industry to replace a study carried out in 2002, which will then make up the evidence base that informs Babergh’s Local Development Framework (LDF). This document will eventually take over from Babergh’s existing Local Plan - the council’s blueprint for new housing, employment and industrial development in the district over the next eight years. It also includes policies of how the district’s environment will be protected.
Rich Cooke, Babergh’s Planning Policy Manager, said: “The new study will mean the LDF has accurate and up-to-date information on retail in Babergh.
“We will want the study to identify changes in the district’s retail industry, including particular strengths and weaknesses.
“It will also provide an indication of the possible future demand - and identify opportunities - for retail provision, as well as looking at the capacity of exisiting shops to provide this.”
Requests for tender documentation, including a Project Brief for consultants, should be made by 28th February to Charlotte Oben or Clare Vint, by telephone on (01473) 825881, in writing at Council Offices, Corks Lane, Hadleigh, Ipswich, Suffolk, IP7 6SJ, by email to: charlotte.oben@babergh.gov.uk or via the Council’s website: www.babergh.gov.uk/babergh/ldf.
