HADLEIGH: PARTNERS QUIZ RESIDENTS’ VIEWS ON LEISURE WISH LIST

Summary

A significant stage in plans to deliver a Suffolk town major investment in its leisure and community facilities begins this week.

A significant stage in plans to deliver a Suffolk town major investment in its leisure and community facilities begins this week.

Around 1,000 households in Hadleigh and the surrounding villages are set to receive questionnaires asking them their views on where any available money should be spent.

The questionnaire is being distributed by the Facilities in Hadleigh Steering Group - made up of Babergh District Council, Hadleigh Town Council and South Suffolk Leisure.

It will be useful in clarifying residents’ views as to whether they would prefer to see a new community building constructed or more support pumped into existing clubs and other organisations.

The questionnaire will also sound out what facilities residents would like to see if the building option gets the thumbs up – in addition to a gym and dance studio already backed by the Steering Group.

Questionnaires need to be returned to Babergh by no later than 14th March 2008.

Cllr Nick Ridley, Chairman of the Steering Group, said: “Hadleigh deserves even better community facilities and we aim to deliver what they want.

“This is the first part of a two-stage process. We wanted to make the number of residents receiving the questionnaire to be large enough to be representative of the population as a whole, but not so large that it becomes an unwieldy process to analyse.

“That is why everybody will be able to make their views known at a special exhibition scheduled for May where the partners will display the questionnaire results for comment and discussion.”

In addition, the specific views of existing clubs and societies involved in providing leisure and community facilities will be sought at a separate stakeholder event.

Babergh District Council has pledged to reinvest the proceeds of the sale of the outdated facility at East House back into community and leisure facilities in the town. ENDS
