TV choirmaster Gareth Malone will be swapping the small screen for the classroom again when he takes part in a classical music project in Babergh at the end of this month.

Gareth - the star of BBC 2's The Choir: Boys Don’t Sing - will be leading a series of classical music workshops with Babergh schoolchildren, culminating in a spectacular concert alongside the City of London Sinfonia (CLS) in July.

The project, called Class Creates, has been organised by Babergh District Council and is being run by CLS. It aims to introduce classical music and bring it alive to new audiences.

Susie Tyrrell, Babergh's Arts and Community Development Officer, said: "This is a really exciting project and one which we are delighted Babergh has been able to fund and organise.

"To have a TV star working with schoolchildren in Babergh and for them being accompanied by world-class orchestral players during workshops is a dream come true!

“The finale concert is an experience which I’m sure the children will love and remember for years to come. We are hoping it may even inspire some to pursue a career in music.”

The workshops, which are open to invited pupils from schools in Sudbury, Clare and Glemsford, will take place at the end of June and the beginning of July.

The concert, which is taking place at Sudbury Upper School on July 5th, will feature performances from the CLS, Gareth Malone and all the school children taking part in the workshops.

Tickets for the finale concert are already on sale. Family tickets cost £7, adults £3 and children £1.50 and can be bought from   Sudbury's Tourist Information Centre in the Town Hall or by calling (01787) 881320. ENDS
