NOISE – IT’S EVERYONE’S RESPONSIBILITY!

Summary

Residents and businesses are being urged to think about the level of noise they make – and its impact during a dedicated noise week.
Residents and businesses are being urged to think about the level of noise they make – and its impact during a dedicated noise week.

Noise Action Week, which is being held from May 18th to 22nd, aims to promote practical solutions to everyday noise problems.

Last year Babergh District Council responded to over 300 noise complaints. These range from the most common complaints such as loud music and barking dogs, to the less common such as bird scarers and early morning noise from cockerels.

During Noise Action Week, Babergh District Council will have an advice stand situated outside Sudbury Town Hall on May 21st from 9am until 4pm.

Throughout the week at Babergh’s Hadleigh office, members of the Council’s Environmental Protection Team will be available to give advice on dealing with noise nuisance and how the Council can help.

Matthew Bullock, Babergh’s Environmental Protection Officer, said: “Noise can cause disruption and distress to everyone - at home, at leisure, at work and at study.

“We would urge everybody to consider the noise they make and the effect it has on others.”

As part of Noise Action Week, Babergh is also asking farmers who operate audible bird scarers to consider whether or not their noise impact can be minimised.

Many of the complaints the Council receives at this time of year relate to early morning noise from these devices.

All farmers should be operating within the National Farmers’ Union Code of Practice. We would therefore ask all farmers to consider whether or not their devices can be adjusted to activate no earlier than 7am.
