Babergh District Council is backing the Dogs Trust’s campaign urging dog owners to pick up the poop and help clean up our public spaces for a great summer outdoors.
While the majority of owners are responsible and pick up after their dogs, a careless few are still giving dogs a bad name, and each year thousands of complaints are received by local authorities about dogs mess – in Babergh, on average, at least one complaint is received a week.
Littering our parks, pavements and open spaces, dog fouling is a problem which Babergh is determined to tackle.
The Dogs Trust, the UK’s largest dog welfare charity, and Babergh are urging all dog owners to be responsible and ‘Bag It & Bin It’.
Daniel Whymark, Babergh’s Local Environmental Quality Officer, said: “The message is simple - if your dog fouls in a public place, scoop it up in a bag and dispose of it in one of the 300 dog waste bins that there are in the district.
“If a bin isn’t available, then it can be disposed of in a litter bin, otherwise take it home and dispose of in your wheelie bin.”
Failing to clear up after your dog in Babergh can result in a fine up to £1000 or a Fixed Penalty Notice.
