Summary

Babergh District Council wants to hear from Sudbury residents about the future of one part of a town park.
Babergh District Council wants to hear from Sudbury residents about the future of one part of a town park.

Officers at the district council believe The Putting Green, in Belle Vue Park, in Sudbury, has gradually become used less and less over the years and initial investigations have revealed there could be a better use for the area it covers.

Now Babergh would like to hear from residents and park users about what they would like to see in Belle Vue and is launching an informal consultation, starting on July 29.

Representatives from Babergh’s leisure and open spaces departments will be in the park from 10.30am until 4.30pm and will be talking to users and taking notes of their views.

There will also be an online questionnaire available on Babergh’s website and people can give their views there until the end of August.

Jo Seymour, Babergh’s Horticultural Officer, said: “Babergh has had numerous requests from individuals for specific items and we wish to see if these would be genuinely popular improvements.

“To this end we would like the views of Sudbury residents and users of the park to help build a picture of how the park is currently used. We will look at what’s popular and what’s not.

“We are also keen to find out how would the residents of Sudbury and users of the park like to see the park develop over the next five to ten years?

“Part of the consultation will also look at who uses the park at the moment and what would ensure they come back.”

Babergh have already begun talking to youth groups in the area and will be talking to other interested parties, in a bid to find out what can be done to further improve the park’s vitality.

They have already received some valuable contributions from Sudbury Town Council which will be key to the redevelopments.

Funding for any revamp has already been secured through capital funding and there could be further money available from Section 106 development money if there is sufficient support from residents and the park users.
