Walkers with a keen interest in the Second World War are being urged to take part in a guided walk of Lavenham airfield.
The walk, which is taking place on July 27th, will focus on The Gentlemen from Hell - the men from the 487th USAAF Bomb Group, based at Lavenham airfield and who played a major role in WWII.
The Gentlemen from Hell, though only in operation for 18 months, left Lavenham airfield 65 years ago.
Walkers can join the event, led by two Blue Badge guides, to see many of the buildings that remain and hear about the life of the airmen on and off the base in the final years of the war.
The walk starts and finishes in Lavenham on Tuesday 27th July, from 10am until 1pm. The cost per person is £10, to include tea & coffee, or £15 if a sandwich buffet is required – all will be provided at the Swan Hotel.
Babergh District Council offers a programme of walks throughout the year as well as an annual walking festival in May. For further details of our walks programme and information on where to stay and what to see in the area, please visit http://www.southandheartofsuffolk.org.uk/
