It will soon be summer holiday time and a series of fun sporting and arts events should keep Babergh’s young people active instead of reaching for the TV remote!
The Big Babergh Initiative (BBI), Babergh District Council’s Holiday Activity Programme, kicks off its Summer Programme on 23rd July with a Family Fun Camp at Sudbury.
The full programme runs throughout the summer, urging schoolchildren of all ages to take advantage of the variety of sessions on offer.
The vast majority of this wide-ranging programme of events have been provided free-of-charge and different events will be taking place right across the district. Activities are aimed at a broad age range with most activities available to children and young people from 5 to 19-years-old. The programme offers arts, sports and family event days, which are a great opportunity for all the family to enjoy the great outdoors. Booklets detailing all of the events on offer, with times and dates, are available from Babergh’s offices in Hadleigh, with information also available via our website. Booklets are being distributed to schools and leisure centres across the district.
The majority of Babergh activities are free but some sessions do involve a small cost – others require booking. Full details are supplied in the booklet and via our website. A registration form, which can be found on the back of the information booklet, must be completed and bought along on the day. Sue Longhurst, Babergh’s Community Development Officer (Sport), said: “Babergh’s activities are an excellent way for children to stay entertained and, most importantly, active throughout the summer holidays.
“The sessions, which are open to children of all abilities, will be packed full of fun and children will be learning new skills at the same time.
“Our activities are fully inclusive and we would like to encourage any children with a disability to take part.
“For those with disabilities or medical conditions, all we need are details in advance so that we can properly plan our sessions and ensure wellbeing. We are delighted that BBI has been able to provide the majority of its activities free to ensure that all have an opportunity to participate.”
