A new youth club - set up by Babergh District Council - is aiming to attract more teens to sessions and boost the number of volunteers helping by holding an open evening. The Hub, which has been open since March, is currently being run every Friday night, during term time, from 7pm until 9pm at the Sudbury Upper School’s Sports and Arts Centre. Now organisers are planning an open evening. The event, which is being held on July 9th at Sudbury Upper Sports and Arts Centre from 7pm until 9pm, will feature a street dance performance, parkour (free-running) demonstration, mini World Cup tournament and DJ workshops. The Hub is a relatively new project set up by Babergh District Council’s Be Active service, working in partnership with Sudbury Upper School and the Sudbury Sports Centre, which provides youngsters the opportunity to try out new sports and activities.
Even the less adventurous are being catered for with Wii consoles on hand or a chill-out zone in bar where they can play pool, chat with friends or just relax.
Stephanie Lloyd, Babergh District Council's Community Development Officer (Leisure), said: "We are hoping that all parents, along with supporters of The Hub, will come along and we can show them just what has been achieved in such a short space of time. "We plan to hold demonstrations of the types of events and activities that are on offer at The Hub, with the aim to showcase what the club is about, how it brings young people together and gives them an opportunity to shine!
“It is also a chance for the parents to get involved in the running and long-term future of it." The Hub is always on the look out for parents and volunteers to help run it.
