Application form - The Building Regulation Application form (PDF, 23Kb).

Please contact us on the details shown below if you would like the application pack posted to you.

The completed Application Form must be returned to Building Control, Babergh District Council at the address shown below, along with the the appropriate fee, plans and other associated documents as detailed above. We can accept payment by phone, please contact the Administration Team for further details.

1 - Full Plans

A full plans application can be used for all types of building works. You will need to submit the following:

  • 2 copies of a suitably completed full plans application form (see above) with a cheque for the appropriate fee, see Fees for details;
  • 2 copies of detailed scaled drawings including site/location plan with, where necessary, associated structural calculations; and
  • detailed written specification of the construction.

An Approval Notice will be issued when the plans are considered to comply with the Building Regulations. It is advisable not to start any works until you have received the Approval Notice.

If the statutory inspections are carried out, (see Site Inspections) and the works comply with the Building Regulations (which they should do if the approved plans are followed) you will be issued with a Completion Certificate following the final inspection.

The full plans procedure must be used if the building is:

  • a workplace under Part II of the Fire Precautions (Workplace) Regulations 1997;
  • is to be put to a designated use under section 1 of the Fire Precautions Act 1971;
  • to be erected fronting on to a private street; or
  • to be erected over a sewer.

2 - Building Notice

You will need to submit the following:

  • 1 copy of a suitably completed building notice application form (see above) with a cheque for the appropriate fee, see Fees for details;
  • we may request copies of plans depending on the complexity of the work.

These must be submitted to us at least two days before the commencement of work.

If the statutory inspections are carried out, see Site Inspections, and the works comply with the Building Regulations we may be able to issue you with a Completion Certificate following the final inspection.
